Class VII Discussion on oral hygiene

DATE - 15.05.2023

BY Dr. Namrata Rawat Khandelwal
(Cosmetic dental surgeon)

Good oral health helps you enjoy life. It lets you speak clearly, taste, chew, and swallow delicious and nutritious foods and show your feelings through facial expressions such as smiling. If you protect your oral health with good oral hygiene practices (brushing and flossing), you can keep your teeth for a lifetime.

To make students aware about good oral hygiene Dr. Namrata came as a resource person in class VII and talked about the structure of teeth, which involves enamel, dentine and pulp. Dental carries which make holes in the teeth caused by plaque, painful if happens. Stages of dental caries, which begins from enamel , reaches to pulp and causes abscess. She talked about calculus tartar which is a hardened plaque that threatens our gums and only the dentist can remove it. She then gave advice to prevent the disease which involves brushing, flossing and fluoride treatment. She talked about brushing teeth in circular motion ( front, back both ) with the help of a teeth model. Then she demonstrated how to do flossing in our teeth ( Firmly grasp the dental floss with index fingers, make a C-shape, gently slide it on all surfaces). The fluoride treatment involves treating it with toothpaste which is effective in dental disease. She also talked about treating the teeth with braces. In conclusion she said we have to brush twice daily, floss at least once a day, use water and toothpaste which contains fluorides. Visit your dentist regularly.

The session was very enriching and engaging for the students. Students learnt a lot about their oral hygiene and promised to maintain it nicely.

SCIENCE CLASS VIII ENERGY CONSERVATION THROUGH PENDULUM

As a part of discussion of Energy, In a simple pendulum with no friction, mechanical energy is conserved.  Total mechanical energy is a combination of kinetic energy and gravitational potential energy.   As the pendulum swings back and forth, there is a constant exchange between kinetic energy and gravitational potential energy. At its starting point, all of the swing’s mechanical energy is potential energy. It has no kinetic energy because it’s not moving.

As the swing moves downward, some of its potential energy changes into kinetic energy.

At its bottommost point, the swing’s kinetic energy is at its maximum because it is moving at its fastest speed. Its potential energy is at a minimum because the swing is at its lowest point.

The learners used the pendulum and observed the rotation of pendulum to get the concept of Energy conservation.

Mother’s Day celebration

The day that recognizes the essence of a mother was celebrated in high spirits and merriment. This being one of those occasions that none of us can afford to miss was zealously enjoyed by one and all. The children irrespective of nationalities, castes, cultures and genders have emotions binding them to their mothers. Keeping this bonding emotion in mind, the Cambridge section of DAV Pushpanjali had a special celebration on mother’s day. Teachers made an earnest effort to instill the importance of mother in a child’s life. Various dance performances given by the mothers, various gaming activities performed by mothers. Some mothers put up the stall . The day was full of enthusiasm for the Mother's. All Mother's enjoyed a lot.
