Learning Objective

  • Identify the stages of mitosis.
  • Arrange the stages in the correct sequence.
  • Understand the significance of mitosis in growth and repair.

Materials Required

  • Prepared slide of onion root tip (or microscope images)
  • Compound microscope (if available)
  • Observation worksheet
  • Stage cards (Prophase, Metaphase, Anaphase, Telophase)
  • Colored pencils

Procedure

  1. Observe the prepared onion root tip slide under the microscope.
  1. Locate cells undergoing division.
  1. Identify cells in:
    • Interphase
    • Prophase
    • Metaphase
    • Anaphase
    • Telophase
  1. Draw one cell representing each stage and label the chromosomes.
